The album features artists such as Tarrus Riley, Jacob Hemphill of SOJA, Peetah Morgan of Morgan Heritage, and J Boog's longterm collaborator Fiji,〔 and incorporates hip hop, rock, reggae, and other influences such as ska.〔 ''Reggae Vibes'' stated that ''Backyard Boogie'' was "probably one of the best albums of 2011."〔 Released on Washhouse Hawaii, the album reached #18 on the Top Heatseekers chart, and after debuting at #1 on the US Billboard Reggae Charts for three years in a row.〔
